Wycombe Abbey School Hangzhou (WAISHZ) is set in 210 acres of spectacular countryside in the Xiaoshan District, south of the city centre. The site itself comprises two schools, a Lower School and an Upper School, providing exceptional education for students from EY through to Year 13 (Grade 12).
The school is seeking to appoint a Director of Sports and PE.
This is a unique opportunity to gain experience in a start-up school, with WAISHZ opening in August 2021. The Whole School Director of Sports and PE is ultimately responsible to the Executive Head under the Line Management of the Head of Upper School and will work closely with both Heads of School on whole school matters. The Whole School Director of Sports and PE will have the opportunity to be a part of the School Middle Management team (SMMT). The successful candidate will be expected to develop exceptional working relations with the leadership of the Upper School, including Grades 6 to 12 (Years 7 to 13). The Whole School Director of Sports and PE will also have the responsibility to ensure that students in the Lower School have the knowledge and skills required to enter the Upper School. The Whole School Director of Sports and PE will therefore cooperate closely with the Head of the Lower School.
Wycombe Abbey School, Hangzhou will be established as a private school enabling local Chinese nationals to enjoy the benefits of a Wycombe Abbey School education. The majority of the student body will be Chinese nationals studying a unique programme where an internationalised programme complements the Chinese National Curriculum. The students will be taught in both Mandarin and English so that they can graduate from the School with undergraduate levels of both Mandarin and English and thereby flourish at premium universities all around the world. All students will take IGCSE and A-Level examinations.
The facilities at the school will be outstanding and include a theatre, first-class laboratories, sports fields, running track, and an indoor pool. A fully resourced, state of art building for EY students will also be on site.
When open, the school will represent a further significant development in the ambitious growth of Wycombe Abbey Schools in China, building on the success of the first school in Changzhou (2016), the opening of a second school in Hong Kong (2019) and commitments to open at least two more schools elsewhere in China by 2021, all operated in a strategic partnership between Wycombe Abbey and BE Education. Wycombe Abbey is recognised globally as one of the UK’s leading independent academic boarding schools and its offer has been carefully replicated in China, shaped to meet local needs. Its reputation for excellence has resonated with aspirational local families and the development of Wycombe Abbey Schools in China has already shown great promise.
Boarding will be at the very heart of the school and the successful candidate will be expected to take full part in the life of a British style Boarding School.
Friday 9th October, although a suitable candidate maybe appointed earlier.
